S15 based on ASTM F1875 – Test methods for fretting corrosion at implant component interfaces

This SpineServ internal test standard describes test methods for analyzing the fretting corrosion behavior of implant constructs at their component interfaces. Basically, the procedure follows the ASTM F1875 standard and, thus, offers two different procedures:

• Method I - long-term testing followed by high-resolution microscopic imaging and standardized classification of the surface changes
• Method II - short-term electrochemical evaluation either as Method II, Procedure A (measurement of the corrosion potential) or as Method II, Procedure B (measurement of the corrosion current)
