The ASTM F2502 test method covers the mechanical characterization of plates and screws for orthopedic internal fixation that are fabricated from hydrolytically degradable polymer.

The following tests may be carried out:

• Static torsion test with absorbable screws
• Determination of the driving torque of absorbable screws
• Pull-out test with absorbable screws
• Static bending test with absorbable plates
